VSIP Bach Ninh (Group 2)

VSIP BAC NINH

The Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) is a flagship project initiated by the governments of Vietnam and Singapore. The maiden VSIP project is located in Binh Duong province's Thuan An district.

The 500-hectare development is zoned primarily for industrial use. It has a total area of 700 hectares (1,730 acres) to be developed over 3 Phases, prepared Land Parcels and Customized Factories, self-sufficient Infrastructures (e.g. Power, Water, Waste Water Treatment and Telecommunications), and on-site Amenities (e.g. Bank, Post Office, Restaurant and Logistic Facilities).

The township area is part of VSIP Bac Ninh project, 18 kilometres north of Hanoi. VSIP, a joint venture between Singaporean Sembcorp Parks Holdings and Vietnam’s Becamex IDC, received an investment certificate for the project in 2007 and it was planned to pump $103.7 million into the industrial park and township.

So far, VSIP Bac Ninh has attracted several well-known transnational companies such as PepsiCo and Nokia. PepsiCo, the world’s second largest food and beverage manufacturer decided to build a $70 million beverage factory there. Nearby, Nokia is building a mobile phone manufacturing factory.

  3. Reflections for GCP Hanoi Day 1

I felt that I should have actually be situationally aware of what I am doing so that I can actually be more responsible of my actions and what I am doing. Through doing this I will get more aware of my situation and do according to what is happening.

    What I learnt today

Water puppetry is a tradition that dates back as far as the 11th century CE when it originated in the villages of the Red River Delta area of northern Vietnam. Today's Vietnamese water puppetry is a unique variation on the ancient Asian puppet tradition.[The puppets are made out of wood and then lacquered. The shows are performed in a waist-deep pool. A large rod supports the puppet under the water and is used by the puppeteers, who are normally hidden behind a screen, to control them. Thus the puppets appear to be moving over the water. When the rice fields would flood, the villagers would entertain each other using this form of puppet play.

What I am expecting of myself Tmr

I except myself to be more disciplined tmr and more organised and more aware of my surroundings. This will lead me to be a more "good boy" and a more disciplined boy.

  4. I believe that going to VSIP is a very interesting area as it is a place for many business opportunities and investment, considering that Vietnam is a very strategic location, cost efficient and has a very high population.I believe that VSIP is a very smart way of increasing the economy in Hanoi and Singapore. It is quite an experience to see the development of the Province under Integrated Township. I also think that  through this Singapore can work together with other countries and form ties with them and not have any conflicts within one another. This trip also showed me the various ways countries could work hand in hand and boost the economy of the country. After the talk, I learnt many things about why VSIP's were created. I also learnt about the various business techniques done by big companies. I also learnt that Singapore and Vietnam works together to achieve greater results and therefore reaching higher goals. With these skills in life, we can strive forward and do wonders. Through my journey in VSIP I learnt that there are many business opportunities in there, and after listening to the talk i have learnt what are the troubles in creation a business and how we can solve it. I also learnt that Singapore is recognized for its organisation and management. However, Singapore is lacking Inventors and Innovators to develop the country even further. So, it shows that we all have to improve on many aspects to help Singapore.

  8. During the visit to the VSIP after lunch, we had an incredibly long journey from the restaurant where we had lunch and then traveled to the VSIP Bach Ninh which took almost a whole hour. The VSIP Bach Ninh was outside Hanoi and we had to travel stretches of highway and roads to get to our destination. Once we reached there, we learned about many things about the Geography of Vietnam, the Happiest and Unhappiest countries on Earth, the relationship between Vietnam and Singapore, the peace level of each country and the history of the VSIP. We also learned about what companies are involved and also about the main investors of the VSIP. We were then shown what would VSIP Bach Ninh be like in ten to fifteen years later, it would become an incredibly modernized and advanced place. This essentially taught us that making and developing international relations would help to benefit both the people helping and yourself.

  9. Today is a very enriching experience to VSIP as I got to know how Singapore has collaborated with Vietnam to foster diplomatic ties, develop the Northern part of Vietnam and create job opportunities throughout the country.I learn a lot. For example, the 2nd happiest country in the world is Vietnam. The land that was once paddy fields will be transformed to an Industrial park about the size of Singapore, together with a township. The statistics shown showed how important jobs are to the country and how crowded Vietnam is. Vietnam has many times Singapore’s area and population.

However, I feel that we were a little too insensitive to actually sleep during the presentation. About half or most of us slept during the presentation as it could be boring. So, I have learnt not to sleep during a presentation so that you will not give a wrong impression to the presenter and in the end, not learning anything.

  10. Trip to VSIP

It was a really long ride there to the VSIP building. We were led into a big room and listen to a presentation of the big projects coming up in the next ten years. It was about building industrial, residential and commercial estates to improve the condition of life for the locals on a big piece of land. I learnt that Singapore would have difficulties catching up with other countries in time to come and the most sensible way is to make Singapore well known for its own products. This requires innovation and entrepreneurial ship to accomplish that goal. Since Singapore had lack of resources such as natural resources, manpower and land, it would be a long journey to be in the top. But with determination and creativeness, we can do it. I also learn that we should be happy with what we have and not take it for granted. I say this because based on the happy scale shown in the presentation, Singapore is far far away from being happy. In fact, even though Vietnam may be statically poorer than Singapore, they are much more happier and satisfied than we are.

  11. After a 1h bus ride out of Hanoi and headed towards Bac Ninh, we finally got to exercise our feet and walked towards a blue building headed "VSIP BAC NINH" (in which VSIP is Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park). Inside, we were lead to a room after we emptied our bladders. After that, we learnt about how Vietnam and Singapore were cooperating to build this industrial park which had some warehouses and production lines in operation like PepsiCo and MapleTree. After that, we learnt about the breakdown of usage of land for other VSIPs in Vietnam like VSIP II and others. After that we went for a round around the industrial park, which was currently in Phase I. After that, we bade farewell to the people in VSIP Bac Ninh and continued on our journey.

  12. Going to VSIP was interesting and very intriguing. It was just like I&E except with real examples of setting up business overseas. The building was built on a plain along with many others such as factories, warehouses, etc.
The area was just near the boundary between of Hanoi and these facilities, which made this location very suitable for setting up buildings. VSIP already had plans on how to develop this area and 46 projects to work on. I would guess that it would take them until we were adults to finish their plans, but it would be more than worth the effort.
I believe it is vital for Singapore to join hands with other countries to sustain itself. Singapore's resources are very limited whilst other countries have an abundance of resources at their disposal like Vietnam itself. Other countries also have land to sell, so we can buy them for more industrial buildings. Other factors include how close the land is to a settlement, the cost of the land and the safety of the country. This part of North Vietnam was a perfect location for development as it was cheap, just next to the border between itself and Hanoi and was a very safe place.
This ‘learning trip’, as i would call it, was very enriching. I learnt about strategically setting up buildings at the right spot with minimal cost. It also taught me the different specialities of the different countries, such as Singapore which is good in logistics. This has made me think of starting businesses when I grow up.

  13. Today, we drove to the VSIP Hanoi. I was surprised to see a vast amount of land, as I was used to crowded Singaporean streets. A lot of factories were located in the land, from different companies of various products. We then went into the building, where we saw a presentation about VSIP, Vietnam and Hanoi.
VSIP is actually a smart way to tighten ties with Vietnam, as we provide each other with needs. Vietnam has vast resources, as well as workers, and Singapore has connections. We support each other, bringing each other to prosperity.
In the talk, we also learnt about opportunities, to innovate and bring products to the world market by Singapore.
From that talk, I learnt that we should also establish ties with other people, just like Vietnam and Singapore. We cannot survive on our own, and we have our own strengths and weaknesses, so we must cooperate with others.

  14. Trip to VSIP

It was very long ride on bus to the VSIP building as we have to pass through a lot of factories and warehouses to reach the VSIP building in the Industrial park. After arriving at the VSIP building we listened to a presentation about what is VSIP and what is the purpose of it and how will it help to improve lives of resident in Vietnam. The whole industrial park is Singapore's government where companies in Singapore set up factories in the Industrial park as it is much more cheaper cost and it can provide more jobs for locals and so to improve their lifestyle. Since Singapore had a lack of resources such as manpower ,land and natural resources, Companies in Singapore can set up their factories in Vietnam where there is much more manpower and more birth rate and which has more land and has also more resources. And based on the happy scale shown in the presentation, Singapore is ranked 90++ out of the 150 countries and Vietnam is ranked 2nd, from that we learned that we must not take granted of what we have and always complain and learn from the Vietnamese who are much more happy with what they have and not complain though Vietnam is statically poorer than Singapore.

  15. During the visit to the VSIP, we got to travel a long distance of almost 20 km from our hotel to the VSIP. Even though it was long, we had a fun time looking out of the window at the scenery along the way. Then when we reached the VSIP we had a very long lecture and I got to learn a lot of things about the relationship between Vietnam and Singapore and about the VSIP and its purposes and future visions and goals to be achieved. We even got to learn the similarities and differences of Vietnam and Singapore. We then went for a tour around the park and I was amazed after looking at the size of the VSIP. I felt that it was a very meaningful trip and i would like to learn more abou the VSIP.

  16. The trip to VSIP was very long and sore, but the idea of making use of Vietnam's land appropriately to develop itself is very effective. Vietnam, though less fortunate and less developed than Singapore, has rated 2nd on the world's happiest countries chart. Yet Singapore, with its modern technology, "creates problems", rating us 90th upon 151 countries. We should be thankful for what we have and improve from our current attitude.

  17. After Nguyen Du Junior High and lunch, we departed Hanoi for the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP), located in Bac Ninh, 20km away from Hanoi. There we learnt about the background of Singapore’s collaboration with Vietnam to develop the five VSIP sites throughout Vietnam, so companies throughout the world are able to have space to build factories to develop their products. I think this shows the teamwork and good collaboration between two countries and we should follow their example to work together to achieve something everything can benefit from. This also shows the the countries don’t only think about themselves but the world as a whole and work towards a goal that everyone will benefit from. Also, we found that while Vietnam is the 2nd most happy country in the world, compared to Singapore in 90th position. I think that Singapore should be a bit more appreciative of what we have rather than what we don’t, since we are much more fortunate the the people in Vietnam.

  18. Today, we went to the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) Bac Ninh. The one we visited was the third one that was built. The VSIP is built to demonstrate friendship between Singapore and Vietnam and as a place to hold the factories of Singapore. Singapore chose Vietnam as Vietnam has a lot of land and resources as well as hardworking, happy and young workers. Based on the Happy Planet Index, Vietnam is second most happiest place in the world where as Singapore is 90th place. This is evident in the people we met as they all look very happy and hospitable whereas Singaporeans usually like to complain. I think we should learn from the Vietnamese and make Singapore a happy place too. Even one of the tour guides who happens to be a Singaporean says that he likes working in Vietnam as the people there are very hospitable and kind.

  19. Getting to the VSIP building in Bach Ninh took a long time by bus. The presentation made by the VSIP staff was long but interesting. It showed the upcoming projects for the industrial park that would be completed by the next 10-15 years. I learnt that there were more than 1 VSIPs in Vietnam, and they were distributed around the country to even out. I also got to know that Singapore is collaborating with Vietnam to form closer ties, redevelop Vietnam to create more job opportunities and to make the citizen's lives better. Singapore will also benefit from it, as we will be able to create more factories to earn money. We learnt that although the citizens don't earn much, but they are happy. On the contrary, Singapore's citizens are not happy although we earn much more. I also learn that we should be happy with what we have and not take it for granted. I say this because based on the happy scale shown in the presentation, Singapore is far far away from being happy. In fact, even though Vietnam may be statically poorer than Singapore, they are much more happier and satisfied than we are.

  20. During the trip to VSIP Bac Ninh, we sat in for a talk to learn more about Vietnam, the collaboration between Singapore and Vietnam, and more on what VSIP Bac Ninh has to offer. I felt that the talk was a bit long and not very engaging which could be improved, but yet on the other hand, fellow schoolmates should show respect to the speakers by looking interested and paying attention, of which some people did not and were sleeping. I hope that tomorrow, our behaviour can improve, and we can enjoy ourselves in the process.

  21. Today we went to visit the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP). I learnt about the collaboration between Singapore and Vietnam and also the importance of maintaining such a collaboration. I learnt why we actually chose to build a VSIP here at Hanoi as it is cost effective and there is lots of land. We also learnt about the geography of Vietnam. The teacher also told us about the Happiest and the Unhappiest countries in the world. Vietnam was the second happiest countries of the world! Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed that Singapore was the 90th. I think that Singapore should have been more happy and positive. We Singaporeans should not take things for granted and be grateful of everything we have. This way, everybody would be happy. However, during the talk, it was a little boring and people were dozing off. I think that it is disrespectful for us to behave in this way.

  22. During the talk at VSIP, a lot of students did not pay attention as sometimes the speaker is not very engaging and she did not catch out attention but I got to learn a lot of things about the relationship between Vietnam and Singapore and about the VSIP and its purposes and future visions and goals to be achieved. We should learn from the Vietnamese who are much more happy with what they have and not complain though Vietnam is statically poorer than Singapore. Although the ride to the VSIP is a very long way, it is also good for people who did not get a good sleep at night as people can take a snooze on the bus.

  24. After lunch, we visited the VSIP Bac Ninh, and i had learned a lot about my own country, Singapore, and Vietnam too. We had to travel half the distance of Singapore out of Hanoi to VSIP Bach Ninh. What i learned was very interesting like what countries are happier than others, relationships and diplomatic ties between Singapore and Vietnam and more about the VSIP. Vietnam was chosen because of its large amount of young adults ready to join the work force, its large land, and lots of other stuff too. It was incredible how they showed us what VSIP Back Ninh would become in the future, from what we saw, a barren land, to a large industrial park.

  25. We visited the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) today. I learnt much about how Singapore and Vietnam are different. But despite their differences, both countries are able to maintain a strong and healthy friendship. Moreover i learnt about how much easier the life in Singapore is when compared to the life in Vietnam. Despite the fact that we Singaporeans are very fortunate to have such a nice environment to study, work and play in, we hardly ever appreciate what we have. Instead, we go around complaining about the flaws of our current facilities. Thus, this had taught me to appreciate my life in Singapore and to be more thankful for what i already have instead of wanting something bigger and neglecting the resources that we already have.

  26. A fruitful trip to VSIP where I learnt about the ties between Singapore and Vietnam. I innitially expected VSIP to be a park (probably one like Botanic Gardens) but instead it bears the size of Singapore. Yes, the whole size of Singapore. Imagine that amount of space.

The talk was about the fostered ties of Vietnam and Singapore. I learnt about the collaboration between Vietnam and Singapore and how important it is to keep it this way. I’ve learnt that Singaporeans are unhappy even though our living conditions, stability is better than most of the countries. Vietnam was rated as one of the happiest countries.

As Singaporeans we do complain about our flaws, not having this and that, much to the extend that we always feel that we never have enough.

  27. Today when we visited VSIP( Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park ) i was shocked to see how the buildings, road, lights or even trees and decorations were like Singapore. It really reminded me of home. It was later that i realized the entire place was built by Singapore and that Vietnam had acknowledged Singapore’s architectural specialties.
I learned about what the Industrial Park was built for and why was it built in Vietnam and not in our own country or some other country. It turns out, The industrial Park was built to allow various companies to built their factories here. The reasons why we decided to build the industrial park in singapore is because of the location vietnam, cheap land, and to build good relations with Vietnam. After a talk about how the industrial park works and how it was built, we proceeded to a tour around the Industrial Park. It was a great eye-opener and we saw many famous companies ‘s factories.

  29. Today we visited VSIP and before we reached there, I expected it to be as big as Tuas only but when we reached there, I was told that it was as big as Singapore and I was shocked at that very momment as I thought that an Industrial should not be that big. After the briefing, when we had a tour of the place where we saw PepsiCo., Foxcon, Maple Tree and many famous brands in Singapore. After the trip, I felt that Singaporeans should complain less and also be contented with what they had as many countries salries are lower but they are happier.
